about

THE NIGHTS WERE DARK and the days were darker when Rich Hope and his Evil Doers cut this album you're holding. Not that the team made its way outside too much, arriving early one morning when the snow crunched underfoot and skating out of there one whole week later on the hazardous suburban glacier that ate Burnaby in the first week of 2008. Inside was amber and intimate, with an ad-hoc junkstore studio thrown up in Richie Eusebio's wood paneled basement, lit by candles and warmed with Jack Daniels, a vinyl copy of BLIND JOE DEATH standing in the corner like an implacable sentinel against bad juju at a time when all the world was juju'd bad. One time in the middle of "Rollin' On" it jumped up like something kicked it, cartwheeling through the air and landing right at Hope's feet - but did he flinch? No. "Damn them troubled spirits," is all he said and then he calmy set BLIND JOE DEATH back in its place, like you do. Hope, the Cleethorpes Crasher, and all the other dudes that gathered to make this album fixed their thinkin' right for seven whole moons after that and kicked back at that juju, aiming square for the money-maker.
